Chapter 4:
Internet Relay Chat
Internet Relay Chat (IRC) is a somewhat addictive service that allows users to interact in real time by typing. A site called
http://www.irchelp.org/
offers documentation on this service.
Another such service goes by the acronym ICQ ("I Seek You"). Like IRC, you download ICQ software and can communicate in real time with others who also have access to the service. Each time you log onto the Internet, the ICQ software searches the list your have created of friends on the Net and alerts you when they are logged on. You can "talk" with your friends (by typing), send messages and even play games.
A third such service is AOL's Instant Messenger.
